Despite urgent attempts to initiate legal action this afternoon (Wednesday), the Tamil asylum seeker known as Mr X was deported from Melbourne around 2.30pm.
He was placed on a direct flight to Bangkok and is expected to be taken directly from Bangkok to arrive in Sri Lanka later tonight.

This afternoon, a Sri Lankan Tamil asylum seeker who was tortured in Sri Lanka and is currently the victim in a pending investigation by the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture informed RISE that he was suddenly moved from the community into Maribyrnong Immigration Detention Centre pending his forced removal from Australia.

Protesters have targeted the immigration detention centre at Perth Airport in a bid to stop the deportation of two Tamil asylum seekers to Sri Lanka.
They prevented a car from leaving the centre on Monday, believing it contained a Tamil man about to be deported.

Refugee activists have been blockading the Perth Immigration Detention Centre since Sunday evening in an attempt to prevent the forced deportation of two Tamil men, Emil and Vithuran.
Around 40 activists gathered for a vigil on Sunday night, as legal attempts failed to delay their imminent deportation.
