Where: 953A Beaufort Street, Inglewood
When: 23 April, 2010. 8:30 am
Amnesty International are right!!
Resistance Centre, Unit 15/5 Aberdeen St (formerly Short St), East Perth 6:30 pm. If the Res Centre's not open we will head to a cafe somewhere, so please don't be late
From Dusk to Dawn - 5.30PM - 7AM - This Friday night...
Corner Baker & McComb Roads - opposite the boom gates to the short term parking at the Perth Domestic Airport. Redcliffe WA 6104
AND - while we're there: A Time to Burn: The End of Kevin Rudd's Bonhoeffer Confession
Bring your ideas, outrage, compassion, knowledge, food, music, blankets etc.
The Perth Immigration Detention Centre (Perth IDC) is again being used to hold asylum seekers. And with the Rudd government’s freeze on processing new asylum claims from Afghanistan and Sri Lanka it may soon hold more.
Perth IDC is also used as a key hub for deportations. We are also likely to see more of these as the Labor government reverts to the style of the Howard years and escalates the punishment of asylum seekers under the guise of protecting “our” borders and being tough on “people smugglers”.
The government’s policies are inhumane, they violate the UN Convention on Refugees, they single out two persecuted ethnic groups (Hazaras & Tamils) and they pander to the darkest xenophobic prejudices.
Let people inside and out know that not all Australians reject asylum seekers. Join us at the vigil.
No Crime to Seek Asylum
For more info on what to bring and advice on how to get there – call Phil on 0417 904 329
Please feel free to print and distribute the vigil flyers which are attached below - there is one with a map to make finding the Centre a little bit easier.
