Deportation Update: Applications for Injunction Lodged with the High Court
Earlier today (Friday), the Federal Magistrates Court dismissed the first of the applications; in response to this, papers were filed with the High Court and a request was made to the Solicitor General requesting their deportation be delayed until the matter is heard some time next year. The outcome of the other case is expected on Monday.
Given the uncertainties around this request and the fact that the Australian Government has, on other occasions, deported people despite court injunctions, RRAN will be going to the Perth Detention Centre on Sunday at 5pm to protest against this government’s decision to deport Tamils back to Sri Lanka and almost certain danger; we may also still go ahead with the blockade. The people inside know we are coming and are looking forward to hear you raise your voice in support and friendship. Please join us.
